Quarantine Growth
Lauren Middleton
Where to even start…. It has been so long since I have put anything on paper but here goes nothing! It has been quite the year. 2020 is absolutely nothing like I imagined it would be, or probably anyone thought it would be. The “Planners” of the world are struggling right now because, well, it is pretty impossible to plan much of anything at the moment. Personally, I like some structure in my life. It keeps me focused, but at the same time with this little growing business, the horses, and other big life changes, structure is out the window! I have learned that it is ok and to focus on all of the exciting things going on rather than a structured schedule.
With the world spinning out of control, it seemed like probably the worst time to expand my studio, but it all fell into place. We ended up selling one of our beautiful colts (which I am beyond excited about) into a great program and set a little of the money aside to make some ideas a reality. This all happened in the midst of quarantine, making it a little stressful to take on the project. I hoped that it would be a smart business move though, and, sure enough, it has been even more amazing than I ever expected!
I planned to only focus on kids clothing, onesies, and home goods such as pillows and tea towels. Everything was turning out so adorable! Later, I was asked about tank tops for ladies, and that was when things got crazy! I never would have thought people would want to wear my artwork. It was a dream come true that it was all so accepted and loved. The first time I wore one of my own creations was such a proud moment! It has taken off even more at this point. I am continuing to add to my collection of clothing and planning for the fall. I think I have some fun things coming and am looking forward to the future.
Some other cool things I have added are masks, and the tumblers will be making an appearance again. Masks are a staple of everyday life now, so I thought I would try to make some cute, comfy ones for the time being. The ones I found are very lightweight and breathable in this crazy Texas heat. The tumblers have always been a fan favorite so I’m really excited about getting those up and rolling again!
So much happening here with At First Sight Studio, the growth is exciting then stressful, then exciting again! Seeing these ideas become a reality is just mind blowing, and as I said, a dream come true! There are many more things in the works, and I am looking forward to sharing them all with you!
